Are my old storage tape drives worth anything?

Don't underestimate the value of your used and seemingly obsolete IT assets. Many of our clients have been surprised at the value they got out of their used equipment.

So, don't be discouraged from selling your storage drives, even if they may seem too old or too broken at the moment.

With that being said, the value we'll offer for your used storage tapes will vary depending on several factors:

  • Age: the older an IT asset is, the lower its market price will be
  • Condition: a storage tape drive in good condition will be priced higher compared to those with functional or cosmetic defects
  • Availability of newer models: most electronics equipment will decrease in price when a direct replacement has been released. If there isn't any direct replacement for the storage tape (even if it's fairly old), the price should remain stable
  • Rarity: very rare storage tape drives can go up in price due to scarcity.

How will you handle the deletion of confidential/regulated information stored within the storage tapes?

We understood the importance of securely eradicating your data during the sales or disposition process.

Depending on your needs and preferences, we may either perform secure deletion of data with the aid of state-of-the-art technologies or perform physical destruction of your storage tapes (i.e., degaussing, shredding, and so on.

We can perform the data eradication or physical destruction at our facility or yours (on-premises), depending on your preferences. Being R2v3 & RIOS certified, we will ensure to eliminate the risk of any of your sensitive information being compromised.

Will disposal or recycling of storage tapes cost me?

In most cases, any associated disposal or recycling fees are negated from the resale value of your storage tape drives. Recycling fees are evaluated by the weight of the scrap commodity contained in the IT asset, which can vary depending on volume and value.
